Geerz - A Unique, Therapeutic, Mountain Biking Program

A supportive, drug-free, natural approach to empowering kids to develop self-esteem, physical fitness, focus, and emotional well-being

Who We Are

Geerz is a unique therapeutic mountain biking program. Our innovative curriculum is designed to support children facing challenges such as ADD/ADHD, learning difficulties, social and behavioral issues, low self-esteem, anger management, family dysfunction, and adolescent anxiety. Many of our riders are referred by school psychologists and private therapists. For others, their parents, schools, or youth villages recognize underlying issues, such as obsession with electronic devices, lack of exercise, and limited social interaction, that require creative and hands-on attention.

What We Do

Geerz utilizes the magic of mountain biking as a supportive, drug-free, natural approach to empowering kids to develop self-esteem, physical fitness, focus, and emotional well-being. Our program incorporates goal-oriented, positive behaviors to fundamentally rebuild a child's emotional framework. The focus of doing this in nature through physical activity nurtures the child's body and soul. As our tagline says, each week, our riders are literally and figuratively "conquering challenges, one trail at a time."

Why We Succeed

Geerz empowers Israeli children without relying on medication, criticism, or stigmatization. This approach fosters genuine engagement from the kids, avoiding any feelings of resentment associated with being "treated." Learning to mountain bike enhances a child's self-esteem through a healthy, constructive outlet, helping them realize their ability to create a path to confidence and achievement. We have numerous moving testimonials from parents, doctors, therapists, school and youth village professionals, and the participants themselves, describing the transformative impact Geerz has had on their lives.

What does Geerz actually look like?

The Geerz program operates during the academic year, offering weekly 90-minute sessions. Each session includes a trail ride, a lesson in skills training (covering riding skills, mechanical skills, bike safety, and etiquette), and an innovative therapeutic component focused on addressing life's challenges.

The discussion about life's challenges takes place halfway through each ride, allowing our riders to rest their bodies while engaging their minds. During each ride, a different struggle is defined, explored, and discussed. The curriculum is designed to progressively cover a wide variety of issues, which our riders can relate to at their own pace and level.

To ensure effective guidance and meaningful relationships, Geerz employs approximately 35 trained instructors each year. These instructors and assistants are dedicated to a specific group of 10-15 riders for the entire riding season.
