I have been working with youth for over seventeen years in formal settings, teen centers and weekend retreats. It wasn’t until twelve years ago, when I took a few teens out on a mountain bike ride, that I saw how adventure activities force one to unplug and recharge. The shift from unhealthy behaviors was shockingly quick. Soon, parents started contacting me and expressed how mountain biking was positively changing their child.
The number of aspiring riders grew, but some couldn't afford bikes. I began to fund raise. Within a year, Geerz was created and became my full-time passion. Ten years later we have over 450 weekly riders in eleven locations cities, with the help of amazing donors who give not only their financial support, but their professional support and their time. This year, we will be hosting our seventh Get into Geerz Two-Day Ride -- a means for us to raise funds and reach more youth than ever.
There are kids out there waiting for the opportunity to join Geerz. They have the drive; they just need the equipment and funding. Please join us, by riding in or sponsoring this amazing Get into Geerz Two-Day Ride, and help Geerz reach more youth.
